About the role:

You will be based in the Cambridge office for 20-24 hours a week, working alongside the Cambridge team as a Church and Tenant Empowerment Worker. You will work in partnership with a local church to support and empower tenants in our homes. You will support tenants to set personal goals and guide them as they work towards achieving them.

Each home is partnered with a local church who provide volunteers whom you will also support. Our mission is to enable the local church to house the homeless and so this is a key part of the role. This will involve actively engaging with the church and maintaining church interest in the HiA project. The role includes training, equipping, and encouraging church volunteers in their role as mentors and befrienders to the tenants, and giving practical support as well.

As an Empowerment Worker, you will be supporting our tenants who have experienced homelessness. Tenants may be single women/men or families with support needs, and it will be your role, to empower them towards a fulfilled life enabling them to move on to independent living.

We envisage this role will also involve helping to set-up a brand-new home for a refugee family who you will then support alongside the partner church group.

About you:

You will be passionate about our work with the homeless and share our values. You will be able to work with church leaders and church members alike. You will need to be able to work with tenants with support needs, including poor mental health, past offending, and drug and alcohol dependency issues. We value good listening skills. The ability to work in a flexible team and learn new skills is important as we foster working within a strong supportive team. We are constantly looking to expand and open new homes in the city to serve the homeless. There may therefore be potential to increase your hours over time.

We love diversity and we value your unique skills, strengths, knowledge, and experience. Becoming one of our team may realise your potential, helping us to raise our performance in empowering those we serve.

Please contact Matthew Morton via phone on 07803 514792 for an informal discussion about this role.

About us:

We provide not just shelter and housing but also the friendship and community of a church. Together with over 74 churches, Hope into Action UK provide direct support to people whom others have often given up on. Our first home had a real heart for men coming out of prison, but homes are now available for a wide range of people experiencing homelessness: people in recovery from addiction, people sleeping rough, women and children fleeing domestic violence, people coming out of rehab, former prostitutes, refugees, those suffering mental health issues and survivors of human trafficking.

We encourage others to use our model by franchising the idea. Our vision is for every church to lovingly provide the homeless with a home. The tragedy of homelessness is in every community. We believe that with our help, every church can do something about it.

Hope into Action Cambridge partner with 8 churches in Cambridge and surrounding areas. We have 11 homes for vulnerable men, women, and families.
