In 2019/2020, 220 (94%) of all our 234 adult tenants felt they had maintained or improved social relationships. 44% said they enjoyed better family relationships. 85 of our 234 tenants, around 1 in 3 reported a relationship with drugs and or alcohol last year (to 31 March 2020). 41 reduced their reliance and a further 29 did not get any worse. In 2018/2019, 28 of our tenants had previously been in custody, only 5 re-offended. This year to 31 March 2020, we housed nearly double that number from prison, 53. Of those 47 remained crime-free. With a re-offending rate of 11% compared to the national average of 48%, we are celebrating the hope that a home and the right support can give. This year to 31 March 2020, our churches housed 300 tenants, including 66 children with at least one parent. 92% maintained their tenancy, up on the 88% of the 250 tenants last year. Poor physical and mental health are causes and consequences of homelessness. 158 of our 234 adult tenants reported suffering with their health at referrral (to 31 March 2020), 93 people improved and including those who maintained their health, we give thanks that 90% of those previously struggling were managing their mental and physical well-being. Rent arrears and debt contribute to homelessness. Nearly half (47%) of our 234 tenants have no debt or are actively addressing the debt they have, either with us or a 3rd party. Homelessness exaggerates barriers to working - mental and physical ill-health, for a start. We are celebrating that 33 of our 234 adult tenants were employed for more than 16 hours a week for more than 3 months in the year to 31 March 2020. Of course, not all our tenants are in a position to work and physical and mental health struggles remain a barrier for some.
